The Ship

Years ago The Ship was finally pulled out of dry dock and re-launched in Kansas City's Historic West Bottoms.  Located at 1217 Union Avenue, the main entrance to the bar is off the alley.  A friend who lived nearby invited me there my first time.  Back in the day it was a Private Club so you had to have an invitation to get in.  In May 2014 the owner obtained a liquor license so that he could open to the public.  Instead of the previous old snack table, there is now a full kitchen and cozy bar at the north end of the space as of June 2017.

Commodore Bob used to randomly schedule pleasure cruises.  He'd send out an email announcing "Welcome aboard and come aboard this Thursday night.  Up on the poop deck so-and-so are playing.  We'll start boarding after 9:30 and have you safely back in port by 1:30."  It was a really fun group back then and still is today.  It's definitely the hippest bar in the City.  Oh yeah, and they serve food now too...Check 'em out!  You can read about their history at www.theshipkc.com.
