Pat Murfey’s restaurants off the beaten path

Wolfe-Es is the essence of the family style restaurant.  They're located at 842 Osage Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas's Armourdale neighborhood.  The kitchen is open to the bar and the clean, simple space.  The menu is pretty extensive with breakfast and lunch selections.  The clientele appear to be regulars.  Folks know each other and the servers know everyone's names.  The service is friendly and prompt.  We lucked out by having our new favorite server, Sara.

Torn between a tenderloin, Philly steak or chicken fried steak, I chose Sara's recommendation of the patty melt on rye. It's smothered in butter with onions and served with regular or curly fries. I chose curly - a good choice. Nicole enjoyed an old school salad complete with chopped deli meat, shredded cheese, halved hard-boiled egg with packets of Captain's Wafers on the side. We went back and tried the Philly and tenderloin and recommend them both. Great home-style meals. Wolfe-Es only takes cash but they do have an ATM in the back room...Check em out!
